Project

New Nancy Hill Elementary School Replaces Original from 1888

The new Nancy Hill Elementary School was built next to the original school which dated back to 1888. The original structure was razed to make room for a new playground and parking lot. Several historical elements from the former school were salvaged and installed in the new school.

The new structure consists of a mix of masonry for the single-story elements and precast concrete for the multi-story elements. A precast storm trap system was installed under the new parking lot for stormwater detention due to site constraints. Energy-efficient features of the new school include a geothermal heating and cooling system and LED lighting throughout the building.

Constructing a new school next to an existing, operating school in a densely populated neighborhood required special safety considerations.  HBCo ensured construction zone access, on-street parking, noise and debris control, and modified traffic patterns didn’t interfere with bus and parent drop-off and pick-up schedules.
