Expertise, Precision, and Safety at Work

Expertise, Precision, and Safety at Work

Another step in the renovation and addition project at Alsip’s Apollo Recreation Center is complete. Recently, Henry Bros. Co.’s project team and Alsip Park District staff oversaw crews from O’Hare Mechanical Contractors Inc. and Midwest Helicopter Airways Inc. orchestrate the removal, replacement, and addition of 11 total roof-top units on the various roofs of the recreation center. Crews removed two units, replaced two units, and added nine new units to accommodate the recreation center’s addition.

Working steadily and methodically, teams on the ground secured each unit to the helicopter which then hovered above the roof so crews there could place the units in their proper spot. The well-calculated process is a safe, efficient, and expedient way to move these large units. The work began shortly after 8 a.m. and was completed by 9:30 a.m. Henry Bros. Co. expects the renovation and expansion project at the Apollo Recreation Center, 12521 S. Kostner, to be completed in November.

“This is a frequently used process to move large roof-top units with site restraints, but it’s always fascinating to see it in action,” said John Tondelli, Henry Bros. Co. Project Manager. “A lot of preparation and coordination has to happen before this work can be scheduled.”
