Project

Fierke and Kruse Education Centers

Henry Bros. Co. completed an $11.2 million project consisting of classroom additions and new cafeteria space to two elementary schools for Tinley Park School District 146. Fierke Education Center in Oak Forest, K-5, added 12,500 S.F. with three kindergarten rooms. Kruse Education Center in Orland Park, preK-5, added 14,900 S.F. with four new kindergarten rooms. The additions included mechanical and aesthetic upgrades and enhancements.

New arts & crafts classrooms feature abundant space and bright lighting. The music/band rooms feature acoustical wall panels for enhanced sound. All the classrooms include storage cabinets and a private restroom sized for the student. Additional resource space was added to both schools and each received new playgrounds.

New food preparation and serving areas were added and outfitted with new appliances. The cafeterias at both schools feature an outdoor-themed design with ceiling accents that resemble clouds, and floors tiled to represent grass and a stream. A design accent in both is a corner painted with a floor-to-ceiling apple tree with pendant lights in red shades. Large windows complete the connection to the outside.

The hallways in both additions have new student lockers with color accents that are reflected on the ductwork of the open-concept ceilings.
